Captain Black - the best-selling American tobacco discovered in the desert

I first came across this tobacco in desert Jordan,​ and where else but in a shop specializing in water pipes,​ which prevail over classic pipes in all Arab countries.​ I was surprised that I managed to find any classic tobacco at all; Captain Black in several variants was the only one they sold.​

Another surprise was that I didn't like it at all; it was very moist and gunky.​ I actually came to appreciate the taste of Captain Black only after returning home,​ when it dried out a bit and became one of my favorite tobaccos.​

Later,​ when I looked up information about Captain Black tobacco,​ I found out that Captain Black is the best-selling tobacco brand in the USA.​

The base of Captain Black consists of a blend of Virginia,​ Burley,​ and especially Black Cavendish,​ which is characterized by its darker color and slightly sweet character.​ Thanks to fermentation processes,​ its flavor is more pronounced and the smoke is gently creamy.​

The most popular variant is Captain Black Original (White),​ which is the one I got,​ with hints of vanilla and a pleasant sweet aroma.​ However,​ there are also other flavored blends available,​ such as with cherry tones (Captain Black Cherry),​ vanilla (Captain Black Royal),​ chocolate,​ or spices.​ A specialty is Captain Black Dark,​ which is 100% Black Cavendish.​ The individual tobaccos differ in their fullness and aromatic qualities.​
