This strong tobacco additive is mixed with the Virginias before the blend is pressed and cut into flakes.

The Mallard Flake Plus Perique tobacco is sold in the form of yellow-brown flakes, which are typically slightly moist. It is usually sold in 50g tins featuring a distinctive image of a duck. Virginia leaves are the primary component, providing the tobacco with base notes of spicy citrus, grass, hay, bread, sugar, and honey. In contrast, Perique contributes mild spiciness and flavors reminiscent of pepper, plums, and figs.
