The world championship returns to Italy after eleven years

The last world competition in Italy took place in 2015 in Monastier di Treviso. In 2026, it returns after an eleven-year hiatus.

This time, the host will be Abano Terme in the Veneto region, near Padua and the Euganean Hills. The town is primarily known for its thermal springs and spa hotels, allowing visitors to combine participation in the championship with relaxation and exploration of the region.

The event is organized by Sottil Fil di Fumo – Padova Pipa Club in collaboration with Circolo Culturale Pipa Club Castello di Conegliano 1994 and Pipa Club Vicenza.

The slow smoking competition will take place on Sunday

Registration for competitors will open on Saturday, October 24, from 10 AM to 5 PM and will continue on Sunday morning from 9 AM to 11 AM. After this deadline, it will no longer be possible to register for the competition.

The world championship in slow pipe smoking will take place on Sunday, October 25, starting at 2 PM. The competition is scheduled to last until approximately 6 PM, followed by the announcement of results and the ceremonial award presentation.

The principle of the competition is that participants strive to keep the assigned amount of tobacco in the pipe lit for as long as possible under the same conditions. It is not only about the duration of smoking but also about the proper preparation of the pipe, calmness, concentration, and the experience of the competitor.

The two-day international exhibition Pipe Expo

Throughout the weekend, the international exhibition Pipe Expo will take place on the ground floor of the Alexander Palace hotel. Visitors will have the opportunity to meet pipe manufacturers, tobacco brands, and various pipe accessories.

The exhibition area will be open on Saturday and Sunday from 10 AM to 6 PM. Established brands, independent manufacturers, and artisans will present their products here, providing an opportunity to meet industry professionals, collectors, and customers from various countries.

For visitors, it will be a chance to explore pipes of innovative and traditional shapes, learn about the work of individual manufacturers, and discover products that may not be available in regular commercial offerings.

Italian flavors, tobacco tastings, and products from the pipe manufacturer Savinelli

A part of the program will also be the Italian Tasting Area, a relaxation and smoking zone dedicated to Italian drinks, gastronomy, blending, and smoking. The area will be equipped with comfortable seating and aims to provide an informal meeting place for visitors and participants.

In 2026, there will also be a thematic section dedicated to the 150th anniversary of the significant brand Savinelli.

There will also be guided tastings of tobaccos complemented by selected products typical of the Veneto region. On Saturday at 5 PM, an evening tasting led by representatives of the Collegio del Tabacco del Pipa Club Italia will take place. On Friday evening, October 23, there will be a welcome dinner for the presidents of national associations. The menu will feature traditional dishes from the Veneto region, including meat and fish options.
