What was the atmosphere like at this year’s event, and who else made it into the top ranks? Read our report.

The round 30th edition of the Třebíč Pipe Smoking Contest, held on Saturday 7 November 2026 at Třebíč Castle, once again confirmed that, thanks to its unique atmosphere, this contest holds a firm and special place in the Czech pipe-smoking calendar.

It was clear from the moment we arrived that this would be no ordinary afternoon of competition. The castle’s historic setting gives the Třebíč contest a distinctive character, and that is one of the reasons competitors are so happy to return. From the outset, the hall was filled with the scent of tobacco, quiet conversation, anticipation, and the customary pre-contest discussions about how everyone packs their pipe, what tactics they will choose, and what will decide the outcome this year.

This year’s jubilee edition produced some very impressive performances. The overall winner was Adam Denis of PC Nové Mesto nad Váhom, who kept his pipe lit for exactly two hours. Michal Hubacz of PC Dýmka.net placed second with a time of 1:55:52, while Ľudovít Zupko of Bratislava Pipe Club took third place with a time of 1:55:18. Just one minute and sixteen seconds behind him, Jan Žižka of ŠPC Prachatice finished fourth, while Tomáš Havelka of PC 00 Brandýsek claimed fifth place. The top ten also included Jozef Miklušičák, Petr Vobořil, Antonín Votava, Alois Pospíšil, and Martin Štěpánek. Notably, the first four competitors all surpassed the one-hour-and-54-minute mark. The gap between second and fourth place was just 110 seconds, testament to an exceptionally close battle for the podium.

The breadth of the field is also worth noting. The results show that competitors from a diverse range of Czech and Slovak clubs gathered in Třebíč, and that the competition was strong. This makes the performances of those who broke the one-and-a-half-hour mark all the more impressive.

The jubilee 30th edition of the Třebíč Pipe Smoking Contest delivered impressive performances in a beautiful castle setting and a friendly spirit. Congratulations to the winners, thanks to the organizers, and well-earned recognition to all the participants, who once again helped create an event to remember fondly.

Thanks to Martin Štěpánek for the photographs.
