320 CZK The Missouri Meerschaum Company from the American state of Missouri is the most famous manufacturer of corn cob pipes. These are simply made from a specially bred, particularly hard variety of corn. The bowl is made from a corn cob, to which a mouthpiece is attached.
Many pipe smokers use corn cobs to test flavors for the following reasons:
Main advantages for testing:
• Clean taste: Unlike briar, corn does not absorb previous aromas. The tested sample tastes exactly as the manufacturer blended it.
• No ghosting: The corn cob is ready for full use immediately after unpacking. During the first five to ten puffs, a slightly woody aftertaste is noticeable. This quickly fades, making it clean.
• High absorbency: The corn cob naturally absorbs moisture and humidity. The leaf burns dry and produces less moisture, making it easier to evaluate the quality and taste of the tested sample.
