It is a robust blend of Virginia and Burley, utilizing equal amounts of air-cured, hot air-cured (Virginia), and strong dark-fired Kentucky tobacco leaves. This combination delivers a full flavor and high nicotine content. Stirling Flake is pressed into a thick flake, offering various packing options – the tobacco can be completely crumbled for easier burning or used with the "fold and stuff" method, which typically ensures a cooler and slower smoke.
